Migraine causes Low Self-Esteem

Migraines often cause migraineurs to lose their self-esteem or self-confidence. It is because during a migraine attack, among the other things that the sufferer faces, cognitive impairments as well as mental and physical weaknesses. This results in feelings of embarrassment, weakness, and worthlessness. When you have a strong and persistent migraine for a few years, you should notice a change in your habits (friend’s meetings, going to parties, etc). You may loose some friends because you are not as "good" as you once were before having the migraine, or simply because you cannot attend meetings and gatherings.

Don't Let Migraine Invade your Life and Destroy it!

Some migraineurs keep trying to cope with migraines until their patience wears off. Migraine attacks may last a few days and they may be as frequent as several times a week. Depending on the severity of migraines, migraineurs try to cope with their ordeal of pain and loss of social and mental abilities. A repetitive battle between this disease and the patient takes place until the migraineur feels overwhelmed by migraine; and finally the patient may give up the fight! This often leads to a mixture of feelings such as frustration, anger, loss of control over life, and inability to cope.

How to Restore Confidence?

Loss of self-esteem may lead to depression. For this reason migraineurs need to help themselves restore some confidence and vitality into their lives by following some steps:

  • You have to move on: If you cannot do a certain job due to its high stress requirements, consider options at different jobs even if they may pay about 20% less than your actual job. Remember you are trading your health benefits with the opportunity cost of downgrading your job salary! It is not necessarily true that peaceful and calm job environments mean less salaries; You have to look for the right job for your condition. Also, you have to lower your expectations and goals.
