Are you feeling Hopeless?

I know, you probably have tried every single tip and advice, but nothing seems to work to a satisfactory level. Migraine is painful and disabling. It is usually associated with other related conditions like depression, anxiety, heartburns, and sleep disorders. And, of course, you need to do something about it!

first, if you have been taking drugs daily, try to empty your system from any drug for about a month. I know, you will say it is hard since you got used to take medications daily and pain-killers often. But, your body has to neutralize itself of drugs and toxins, so that you can feel better later. You have to be patient and rely on yourself in fighting migraine since no drug can substitute your will.

You should take a logical approach when dealing with migraine:

try to identify the cause / triggers

I have to stress that you need to look for the cause of your migraines yourself with the help of a doctor. Migraine, according to many doctors, is genetical in origin, but there are some other causes to migraine. Possible causes of migraine can be recurring stress, lack of sleep, brain tumor, jaw and teeth problems, vision and eye strain, mitral valve prolapse, poor blood circulation, magnesium deficiency, celiac disease, thyroid disorder, and hormonal problems.

Many migraine patients have eliminated 90% of their pain through trigger elimination. You may need to keep a diary, so that you eliminate the possible migraine triggers. Common migraine triggers include changes in sleeping patterns, chocolate, whether changes, coffee, sun glare, red wine, and aged cheese. If nothing seems obvious as a cause or trigger of your migraines then just try to control migraines so that you get relief.

Use alternative therapies and natural medicines along with prescribed medications.

Many migraineurs enjoy a good life by using alternative therapies and taking natural medicines. Be patient and try different things until you find what works for you.

Some of what you may try can be sports like swimming, Biofeedback, and massage, shiatsu, and acupuncture. Try to de-stress yourself by having a shower or doing yoga and deep breathing. There are also some natural or herbal medicines that you can try like feverfew, magnesium, and some multi-vitamin supplements. And don’t forget aromatherapy as it has helped many migraineurs.

You need to try pharmaceutical medicine if your migraine is strong. Medications are categorized into preventative and abortive medicines. Migraineurs should start by certain type of medication then go to the next when no sign of improvement seems apparent. You should start by
  • Beta Blockers / Calcium Channel Blockers / Tricyclic antidepressants
  • Over the counter drugs (like Advil, Ibuprofen, Motrin, and Tylenol.)
  • Triptans (like Imitrex, Relpax, Zomig, Imigran)
If the above combination does not work then try:
  • Anti-seizure drugs (like Topamax, Depatoke, and Lyrica)
  • Strong painkillers and Dihydroergotamine (Migranal)
  • Fioricet
